Earlier this year, the California State Bar proposed 70 new and amended Rules of Professional Conduct to replace the 46 rules that currently govern the conduct of attorneys in California. Several of the proposed rules contemplate controversial or important changes to the current rules or impose new obligations in California. Neil Wertlieb’s article, entitled “Best Behavior: Proposed Conduct Rules,” which was published in November in the Los Angeles Lawyer, a publication of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, summarizes these proposed changes.

Neil Wertlieb successfully completed training in “Mediating the Litigated Case” at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University School of Law (Summer 2017). The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, which conducts this six-day, 42-hour program, is one of the world’s leading educational programs in the field of dispute resolution.

Corporate Partner Neil Wertlieb retired from the law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP on December 31, 2016 after over 21 years at the firm.  Effective January 1, 2017, Mr. Wertlieb launched Wertlieb Law Corp, where he will provide expert witness and expert consulting services to parties or their attorneys in litigation and arbitration matters. The two primary areas of focus of Wertlieb Law Corp are disputes involving business transactions and corporate governance, and cases involving attorney malpractice and attorney ethics.  Among other things, his new practice builds upon his experience at Milbank, where his practice focused on corporate governance and business transactions (including acquisitions, securities offerings and restructurings), and his involvement with the ethics bar, including service as Chair of the State Bar of California’s Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct and as an officer of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee.
